This year, National Geographic received more than 2.2 million photos from 132 photographers in 60 countries. "When traveling again, we ventured back into the world with a new sense of adventure. Pictures that we publish reflect the beauty of the world we live in through new perspectives," NatGeo said of this year's photo selection criteria. Besides, the photos must spark the spirit of adventure, encourage new experiences and keep the viewer excited for the next journey.

National Geographic is an American magazine of the National Geographic Society and a paid television channel. Every year, NatGeo announces photography awards, including the best photos of 2022 in many categories such as travel, discovery, nature, and sustainability. The judges are the world's top photographers.
