Ninh Binh Province, a small wedge-shaped province, is around 100 kilometers to the South of Hanoi. Ninh Binh stretches from Cuc Phuong National Park to a very short coastline facing out the Gulf of Tonkin. It is bordered by Hoa Binh and Ha Nam to the north, Nam Dinh to the northeast, Thanh Hoa to the south and west.
