Moc Chau Province is located in Moc Chau District, Son La Province, about 180 kilometers far from Hanoi. Moc Chau plateau is a must-visit destination in Vietnam because of its beautiful landscapes with green tea plantations, many herds of milk cows, the huge garden of apricot trees and various flowers.

Moc Chau is a plateau located in the northern mountainous area of Vietnam. With the variation of its climate and the short distance from Hanoi, Moc Chau becomes a well-known destination for tourist in almost every season of the year. The highest temperature recorded in Moc Chau is 32oC and the lowest is approximate 10oC. The average temperature here ranges from 16oC to 29oC.
The wet season of Moc Chau happens mostly from May to July, when the precipitation rises up to no lower than 300mm. The total precipitation is estimated from 1800 to 2100 mm per year. While the summer has a good amount of rain, the winter does not. The precipitation in winter just varies from 30 mm to 85 mm per month.
Although Moc Chau is a plateau in a mountainous area, there is rarely snow here. For 9 years since 2010 until recently, there has been just one time that there was snow in Moc Chau in January 2016.

2. When is the best time to visit Moc Chau, Vietnam

The most beautiful season of white plum blossom in Moc Chau marks from the end of January to the early of February. The plum blossom lasts for a short time about just two or three weeks before giving its place for plum fruits. At this time, Moc Chau has a stunning beauty with all mountain slopes covered with white plum flowers and other beautiful flowers. Plum blossom can be seen everywhere including roads, from villages to hills and also along two sides of the highways.

After February is the time of Het Cha festival in March. Het Cha festival is a traditional event of Thai people – an ethnic minority in Moc Chau. This festival is celebrated in Ang Village, Dong Sang Ward, Moc Chau District. Het Cha Festival is to celebrate at the end of Ban flower season and also a day to commemorate the spirit who protect the villages. It happens on 26th March but it is prepared a day before. The locals prepare food as ritual items such as pigs, sticky rice, chickens and white ban flowers to decorate trees. In Het Cha Festivals, people dance around Xang Cha, which is an item built of old bamboo and other decorating items.

b. From November to December – The season of cauliflowers and marigold flowers

Around November and December, the end of Autumn and early winter is the best time to travel to Moc Chau. During these months, you can have chances to observe the beauty of Moc Chau Plateau covered with the white color of cauliflowers. White cauliflowers bloom in the green hills make it an ideal place for photographers to take wedding pictures and for the couple to enjoy their honeymoon. Ang Village and Thung Cuong Village are two beautiful places to hunt cauliflowers. III. WHERE TO VISIT IN MOC CHAU, VIETNAM

1. Pa Phach village – The village of Thai and Hmong people

Pa Phach village is 5 kilometers far from Moc Chau town. To get to Pa Phach village, move toward the route 6 then turn into a small road in front of Moc Chau Tea Company. The top of Pa Phach is the village of Thai people. The bottom of Pa Phach village is divided into three parts including Pa Phach 1, Pa Phach 2, and the village of Hmong people. The weather in Pa Phach village is quite cool and comfortable. Especially in the afternoon, the fog will cover all the village and make it become a unique scenery. Dai Yem Waterfall is located in Muong Sang Ward, Moc Chau District, Son La Province. It is also called as other names as Nang Waterfall or, Ban Vat waterfall. Described with the height of 100 meters, Dai Yem waterfall is one of the most famous destinations for tourists who visit Moc Chau. “Dai Yem” in Vietnamese means a long piece of cloth. The waterfall here is called as “dai yem” because from far view, the waterfall looks like a cloth which connects the ground and the sky. The best time to visit Dai Yem waterfall is from April to September. At that time, Moc Chau is in the rain season. In the rain season, water from the top of the waterfall flows down the slopes to the bottom. That scene is the stunning beauty of nature, which is a treasure of Moc Chau plateau.

Moc Chau town is mostly covered by tea hill. In here, tea is the main crop and the most famous product of Moc Chau. Among the many tea hills in Moc Chau, there are two tea hills with the special shape of a heart.
The nearest heart-shaped tea hill is in Dai Loan area which is 10 kilometers far from Moc Chau town. The other heart-shaped tea hill is in Tan Lap 3 Hamlet area, which is 11 kilometers far from Moc Chau town.

The best time to see colza flowers in Moc Chau is at the end of the autumn and in the early winter. Around November and December, Moc Chau becomes a very romantic scenery with the bloom of colza flowers which fully cover all the hill with the white color. Some recommended places to see colza flowers including Na Ka Valley, pine forest of Ang village and Pa Phach village.
Besides colza flowers, plum is also a kind of flower which contribute to the beauty of Moc Chau. While late autumn and early winter is the best time to observe colza flower, early spring is the time for plum blossom. You should arrive in Moc Chau between January and February to catch the beauty of plum blossom because it lasts for just about two or three weeks. Love Market lasts for just one day on September 1st, which is coincided with The New Year Day of Hmong people. Covering the area of 6,915 square meters in the northeast of Moc Chau, bat cave is a recommended place for visitors in Moc Chau. The bat cave is also called Son Moc Huong Cave and Sa Lai Cave. The legend tells that. The entrance of the cave looks like a mouth of the dragon and the ancient story about the cave told that it used to be a dragon. The cave has the name bat cave because it used to be home to bats but now they have already moved.  There is a lake which covering 200 msquare meters inside the cave.
