    Xuan Huong Lake – The charming lake at the heart of Dalat

    At the heart of Dalat city lies a charming lake called “Xuan Huong”. Surrounded by Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Tran Quoc Toan, Le Dai Hanh, and Yersin Street, Xuan Huong Lake used to be the site where numerous indigenous people of Lang Biang highland inhabited.

    Xuan Huong Lake is named after a famous Vietnamese female poet in the 19th century. In the beginning, the French called it Grand Lac (large lake). Then it was renamed in 1953 as an expression of the people’s appreciation of the poet. Xuan Huong Lake is an artificial one that was created in 1935. This lake is formed by a large dam that was built of boulders on a branch of Cam Ly River. After several reconstructions, Xuan Huong Lake now has a crescent-moon shape.

    With the total area of nearly 430,000 m 2, Xuan Huong Lake stretches through several attractions including the Cu Hill Dalat Flower Park and. The smooth surface of the lake is like a huge mirror reflecting the dreamy scenery of Dalat with pine forests, vast meadows, and fresh gardens. Visiting Xuan Huong Lake, in addition to strolling along the lakeside, you can rest under the conifer and enjoy a cup of coffee.

    Located 5 kilometers from the center of Dalat, the Valley of Love is a romantic destination of many couples from all over the world. To gain its rightful name and great fame as today, the Valley of Love has to go through many challenges.  In the beginning, the French called this place Vallée D’amour (Valley of Love). Then, the Bao Dai King changed the name into “The Valley of Peace”. Not until 1935 did its charm and romance persuade people to once again call it “Love” – the most beautiful thing in the world. It’s also the time when Mr. Nguyen Vy, the chairman of Dalat, suggested to change the French name into Vietnamese.

    Thanks to its picturesque valleys and endless pine forests, the Valley of Love is considered one of the most picturesque and romantic sites of the city. The tranquil Da Thien Lake also contributes to the attractiveness of the valley. To truly, fully enjoy the beauty of this place, you must climb up the Vong Canh Hill to admire gorgeous Mimosa flowers in blossom. Following the natural tracks and staircases leading to the top of the hill, you can also see the Lang Biang peaks standing out vividly against the blue sky. Besides, you can experience the horse riding, jeep safari, motorized and paddleboat on the lake.

    Domaine de Marie Church – The harmony between Vietnamese & French culture

    Located on a nice hill at the Ngo Quyen Street, Domaine de Marie Church nowadays is not only a worship place for the Catholic but also a destination for visitors from different countries in the world. Completed in 1943 after 13 years of construction, Domaine de Marie Church features blended the architecture of France and Vietnam. Its roof has an origin from the design of “nha rong” – the commune houses of the residents in the Central Highlands architecture of France and Vietnam. Meanwhile, French influence can be seen on the walls decorated with the Normandy style, and on the façade of the building which features many small arch-shaped windows. At the center of the 29.6-acre architectural complex stands a 3-meter-high statue of Mary. Despite being created by a French architect, this statue resembles the image of a Vietnamese woman.

    Bao Dai Summer Palace – The remnant of Vietnam feudal court

    Dalat attracts countless tourists not only by its natural beauty but also by the architecture which features the specific characteristics of French antique style. The Bao Dai Summer Palace is an ideal example of that architecture. Being built from 1933 to 1937, the palace still remains to be a must-visit villa for almost all travelers up to now.

    In the beginning, this palace was constructed as a retreating place for King Bao Dai and his royal family to escape the summer heat. That’s why it lied in the middle of the green pine forest. This villa was designed in the art deco style which reflected in every corner of 25 rooms and the amenities.

    Visiting the palace, you can have a chance of discovering the royal life of the Vietnam feudal court. The ground floor which consists of the office room, the guest room, and the reception room is the working place of the king. Upstairs is the royal living space of the King’s family including bedrooms, the moon balcony, library, entertainment room, and a large dining room. There are a lot of valuable items remaining in good condition such as the smaller gold and brown busts are of Emperor Khai Dinh, the heaven brass royal seal, and a picture of Angkor Wat, a present of King Sihanouk of Cambodia. Dalat Flower Park is one of the most appealing attractions in the city, especially on the occasion of the annual Flower Festival.
