I. WHEN TO TRAVEL TO CAT TIEN NATIONAL PARK

1. Weather in Cat Tien National Park

As lying in the tropical monsoon climate, Cat Tien National Park has a really hot and wet atmosphere. The average temperature is 25.4oC, the highest is around 30.8oC and the lowest is 21.3oC. there are 2 separate seasons, which is dry season and rainy season. The rainy season begins from May to October with 2,894 mm of average rainfall. July, August and September are the heaviest-rain months. In contrast, the dry season begins from November to April. February and March are the driest months. The average humidity rate is 83.6%.

2. Best time to visit Cat Tien National Park

The best time to visit Cat Tien National Park in our opinion is in the dry season (or from December to May). During the dry season, the dirt roads on the forest are at its best condition, allow you to reach as most places in Cat Tien National Park as possible. It is also the Queen’s Crepe-myrtle Blossom season so you will have the chance to admire the gorgeous purple of the Queen’s Crepe-myrtle forest.

You can visit Cat Tien National Park anytime in the year, and of course, this place always has something for you. Just remember to update weather forecast regularly to avoid heavy rain or other unwanted weathers. Raining for a couple days might crush your trip.

II. HOW TO TRAVEL TO CAT TIEN NATIONAL PARK

1. Getting to Cat Tien National Park by shuttle bus

The best place to start your journey by this mean of transport in Ho Chi Minh City. Because there is no direct shuttle bus route from Hanoi to Cat Tien National Park. Even though, you can jump onto a Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh bus and ask the bus staff where you should leave the bus. The office of Cat Tien National Park is located at Tan Phu Commune, Dong Nai Province so we think it is better to leave the bus somewhere nearby.

You might find some providers at the Eastern Station. There are 2 options for you:

First Option:  Catch a direct bus to Cat Tien National Park 

Tan Phu Transport Company.
They have 2 trips/day which will take you directly to the gate of Cat Tien National Park.

Second Option: You can catch a bus to Tan Phu Station, Dong Nai and then catch another bus from Tan Phu Station to arrive in Cat Tien National Park. You might find the ticket to Cat Tien National Park at the ticket counter No. 5 at Tan Phu Station or call this number: (+84) 251 386 9228. This way seems to be longer but you will be served by the better-quality buses. There are some providers will carry you to Tan Phu Station.

2. Getting to Cat Tien National Park from Ho Chi Minh City by private vehicle

Hiring a private vehicle in Ho Chi Minh City is quite simple. You can find them everywhere, diverse in vehicle categories, policies and prices. We recommend that you should hire a motorbike because the journey is not so long and you are going to the jungle, mobility is the priority.

From Ho Chi Minh City, you follow the 1A National Highway to Dau Day T-junction then turn left onto National Highway 20 (the route leads to Da Lat). After about 58 kilometers, turn left at Ta Lai Junction for 24 kilometers more then you are in Cat Tien National Park.

Always remember to check your vehicle carefully before signing the contract. Negotiate with the leaser to write detailly date of contract as well as what you gave them as the deposit will protect you effectively. Besides, try to bargain with the leaser so you can keep the necessary papers for participating traffic will help you to avoid troubles with police.

One last thing, if you ask people the way the national park, make clear you are talking about Cat Tien National Park because there is a commune named Cat Tien in Dong Nai Province.

3. How to get around Cat Tien National Park

Cat Tien National Park is not the place for you to freely go around by yourself. Unless you knew all the ways in the area, it is necessary to participate in a tour held by the empowered organization. The national park is large with many difficult terrains makes it’s hard to find if you get lost. Plus, remember that there are animals in the jungle and who knows what will happen if you mess with them. It costs you from VND 200,000 – VND 800,000 for an 8-seat car.
