This region has a temperate and subtropical climate which is cool throughout the year, with the average annual temperature of 15ºC. Far North Vietnam has two distinct seasons: Winter and Summer. The summer here is not as hot as the coastal region and the temperatures are around 13ºC – 15ºC (night), 20ºC – 25ºC (daytime). The winter is often and very cold, the temperature is sometimes below 0°C and there is even snowfall. From May to August, this region has a lot of rain. Average annual rainfall is 1,800mm – 2,200mm.

Particularly, in the Ba Na mountain at an altitude of nearly 1,500m, has an average temperature of 17ºC to 20ºC all the year. The average annual humidity is 83.4%. The average annual rainfall is 1.355mm, the highest one is in October with 266mm, and the lowest one is in February with 7mm.

The climate of Central Vietnam is a transition between the climate of the North and the South, with a bit more tropical climate in the South. The average annual rainfall is 1934mm and there are about 159 rain days per year.

The region has two distinct seasons: the rain season from May to November. The rain usually occurs in the late afternoon, heavy rain but fast, sometimes raining all day long. The dry season is from December to April next year. There’s no winter here.

January is one of the driest months of the year in Hanoi and the North. At this time the climate will remain quite cool with the average temperature of 18°C. Sometimes it has light rain in January and there is foggy weather, especially in coastal areas and around Halong Bay.
