On the afternoon of August 29th, Thang Long – Hanoi Center for Preservation of Heritage opened the exhibition on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of September 2nd.

“Vietnam Folk Painting” is an activity within the framework of the scientific cooperation program between the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and the EFEO Center in Ho Chi Minh City (EFEO) to introduce a collection of Vietnamese folk paintings and folklore of Vietnam, contribute to preserve the traditional cultural identity of the nation.

The exhibition introduces more than 50 paintings from the book “Vietnamese Folk Painting and Research” by Maurice Durand published by EFEO. Maurice Durand’s book is not just a collection of paintings, this is also a presentation of a large part of the collection of more than 400 folk paintings collected by Maurice Durand in Hanoi in 1940 with the support of scholars such as Tran Van Giap, Tran Huy Ba, Louis Bezacier, Paul Lesvy. This is a collection of valuable folk art still preserved today.

On this occasion, the Center for Preservation of Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage also introduced the exhibition “Two Directors Nguyen Tri Phuong – Hoang Dieu”. The exhibition introduces over 60 images, documents, drawings related to the two Governors Nguyen Tri Phuong (1800-1873) and Governor Hoang Dieu (1829 – 1882) had attached, built and fought to defend the city of Hanoi.

The documents, pictures, and exhibitions highlight the role of Governor Nguyen Tri Phuong, the head of the dynasty. At the same time, the exhibition also presents the full story of the life of Governor Hoang Dieu – the Governor of integrity, living close to the people.

The exhibition was introduced at the relic of Cua Bac where bold marks of the two Governors. On the occasion of National Day September 2nd, traditional cultural activities such as folk songs and water puppetry show on the 1st and 2nd of September are held at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. Traditional cultural and sports exchange program will start at 9:00 on September 2nd.
